Hi, Friends of Cocktails! Today we’re celebrating a true pioneer, Amelia Earhart, born on July 24th, 1897. A fearless aviator, writer, and equal rights activist, she inspired generations of women to follow their dreams. What better way to honor her than with a classic pre-prohibition cocktail—the Aviation?
For this midsummer edition, we’re using Hendrick’s Midsummer Solstice Gin, a small-batch limited edition that’s light, crisp, and beautifully floral—perfect for summer and perfectly fitting to honor Amelia and her pioneering spirit.
Midsummer Aviation:
• 45 ml (1 1/2 oz) Hendrick’s Midsummer Solstice Gin
• 22,5 ml (3/4 oz) Maraschino liqueur
• 22,5 ml (3/4 oz) lemon juice
• 1 barspoon Crème de Violette
To make the cocktail, add all ingredients and ice into your shaker. The Crème de Violette gives the cocktail its signature purple hue, while the lemon juice adds the bright acidity needed to balance the floral and sweet notes.
Shake everything until perfectly chilled, and make sure your glass is well-chilled as well. Strain the drink into a glass and garnish with a maraschino cherry, ideally soaked in Maraska cherry syrup for that extra touch.
The resulting Aviation has a marvelous color and a floral, elegant aroma. The Midsummer Solstice Gin is crisp and light, harmonizing perfectly with the tartness of lemon and the floral notes from the Crème de Violette. Maraschino adds just the right amount of sweetness—no more than needed.
This cocktail isn’t just a tribute to Amelia Earhart’s daring adventures; it’s also a reminder to set your goals high and pursue your dreams, whether it’s in the skies or here on the ground.
Here’s to fearless women, daring plans, and the midsummer skies!
Cheers!
