Moscow Mule isn’t the only refreshing summer sipper worth knowing. For this episode, Kevin made three Mule-style cocktails — each with its own spirit and personality: vodka, whisky, and rum. They’re all built the same easy way, straight into the glass, and they’re perfect for warm days or whenever you need something light and zesty.
The classic Moscow Mule was created in the 1940s when a vodka importer, a bar owner with extra ginger beer, and a copper manufacturer joined forces to make one of the most famous cocktails of all time. The result? A drink with a spicy kick, fresh lime, and that unmistakable chilled copper mug.
Moscow Mule:
· 50 ml (1⅔ oz) Vodka
· 10 ml (⅓ oz) Lime juice
· 100 ml (3⅓ oz) Ginger beer
· Garnish with a mint bouquet and a lime wedge
Refreshing and spicy, this cocktail combines ginger heat, zesty lime, and the cooling aroma of mint — a simple but timeless mix that’s been a summer favorite for decades.
Next up is the Speyside Donkey, Kevin’s whisky-based Mule. Named after the Scottish whisky region, this version trades vodka for blended Scotch and swaps ginger beer for ginger ale. The result is a smoother, mellower drink with layers of fruit and spice.
Speyside Donkey:
· 50 ml (1⅔ oz) Scotch whisky
· 10 ml (⅓ oz) Lemon juice
· 100 ml (3⅓ oz) Ginger ale
· Garnish with a dehydrated pineapple slice and a pineapple leaf
The ginger is gentle here, letting the whisky’s fruity notes shine through — ideal for whisky lovers who want something refreshing but still spirit-forward.
Finally, there’s the Caribbean Burro, made with spiced rum and tropical flavors. The mango soda adds sweetness and a touch of exotic fruit, while lime brings balance and basil ties it all together with a soft herbal note.
Caribbean Burro:
· 50 ml (1⅔ oz) Spiced rum
· 10 ml (⅓ oz) Lime juice
· 100 ml (3⅓ oz) Mango soda or lemonade
· Garnish with a dehydrated mango and a basil bouquet
This one’s tropical, aromatic, and full of summer vibes — perfect for anyone who loves a fruity twist on the Mule family.
Whichever one you pick, you’ll get that same bright, fizzy refreshment that makes Mule cocktails so loved. And if it’s not summer where you are, just put on some sunny music and enjoy your own summer Cocktail Time.
